Cross River Confirms COVID-19 Case as 53-Year-Old Chinese Expatriate Isolated at UCTH
The Cross River State Government has confirmed a new case of COVID-19 involving a 53-year-old Chinese expatriate who has been isolated and is currently receiving treatment at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH).
Health authorities in the state said the case was detected after the patient showed symptoms consistent with the virus and was promptly tested in line with established medical protocols. The result later returned positive, leading to immediate isolation to prevent possible spread.
Officials explained that contact tracing efforts have begun, with health teams working to identify individuals who may have had contact with the patient. The state government also activated its emergency response system to ensure close monitoring of the situation.
The Ministry of Health reassured residents that there is no cause for panic, stating that the case is being properly managed within a controlled medical environment. Authorities emphasized that Cross River’s health facilities are equipped to handle such cases and that containment measures are already in place.
Medical experts at UCTH confirmed that the patient is stable and under close observation. They added that standard treatment procedures and infection control protocols are being strictly followed.
The development has prompted renewed calls for residents to maintain basic preventive health measures, including hygiene practices and early reporting of symptoms. Health officials also reminded the public that COVID-19 remains a global health concern, even though infection rates have significantly reduced compared to previous years.
The state government reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring transparency in handling any future cases.
