Adeyanju Raises Concern Over Youth Misconduct on Social Media and Internet Fraud
Human rights activist Deji Adeyanju has expressed concern over the rising trend of misconduct among Nigerian youths, particularly on social media platforms like TikTok. He lamented what he described as disturbing behavior, including indecent content shared online and the growing involvement of young people in internet fraud.
Adeyanju noted that the situation reflects deeper societal challenges affecting young Nigerians. He warned that the trend, if not addressed, could harm the country’s image and limit opportunities for future generations. According to him, the increasing exposure of inappropriate content and illegal activities among youths raises questions about values, mentorship, and accountability.
The activist called on parents, community leaders, and government institutions to take proactive steps in guiding young people. He stressed the need for better education, awareness, and enforcement of laws to curb both online misconduct and cybercrime activities.
Observers say the issue highlights the influence of social media on youth behavior and the pressures faced by young people in a fast-changing digital world. Many have also called for stronger digital literacy programs and youth engagement initiatives to promote positive use of online platforms.
The concerns come amid ongoing national discussions about internet fraud, often referred to locally as “yahoo,” and its impact on Nigeria’s reputation globally. Stakeholders continue to urge collective action to address the root causes and create better opportunities for young people.
