NDC Uploads Peter Obi Nomination Particulars to INEC Portal Ahead of 2027 Election
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially uploaded the nomination particulars of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal, marking another important milestone in the party’s preparations for the 2027 general election. The move comes as political parties intensify efforts to meet the electoral timetable set by the electoral commission for the submission of candidates’ details.
The announcement was made by the National Leader of the NDC, Senator Seriake Dickson, who disclosed that the party had successfully completed the upload of Peter Obi’s nomination particulars to the commission’s online portal. According to him, the party remains committed to complying with every stage of the electoral process as outlined by INEC.
Dickson explained that while Peter Obi’s particulars have already been submitted, the details of the party’s vice-presidential candidate will be uploaded after the completion of the necessary documentation. He added that the nomination process for candidates seeking election into the National Assembly, governorship positions and state Houses of Assembly is also progressing in line with the commission’s timetable.
The submission follows INEC’s activation of its Candidate Nomination Portal, allowing registered political parties to electronically upload the particulars of candidates contesting various elective offices in the 2027 general election. The portal serves as the official platform through which parties submit the names and required documents of their candidates before the commission’s deadline.
Party officials expressed confidence that the NDC remains fully on course with its preparations despite recent legal issues surrounding the party’s status. Dickson maintained that the party remains a duly registered political organisation and has already completed its primary elections across the country under the supervision of INEC, leaving only the administrative process of submitting candidates’ particulars through the commission’s portal.
He also reassured party members and supporters that there was no cause for concern regarding the nomination process, noting that sufficient time remains before the submission deadlines for other categories of candidates. According to him, the party is working to ensure that every qualified candidate is properly uploaded to the INEC portal within the stipulated period.
The development comes shortly after INEC restored the NDC’s access to its nomination portal following legal proceedings initiated by the party over issues relating to its registration. The restoration enabled the party to resume the electronic submission of candidates’ particulars in accordance with the electoral timetable.
Political analysts believe the successful upload of Peter Obi’s nomination particulars represents a significant administrative step in the party’s preparations for the presidential election. Although the submission does not conclude the entire nomination process, it demonstrates the party’s readiness to comply with INEC’s procedures ahead of the commencement of campaigns.
Across the political landscape, several major parties have also begun uploading the particulars of their candidates after receiving access credentials from INEC. The commission has repeatedly urged political parties to adhere strictly to the approved timetable to avoid last-minute complications that could affect the nomination process.
As preparations for the 2027 general election continue, the NDC says it remains focused on completing every requirement stipulated by the electoral commission. The party expressed optimism that all outstanding documentation, including that of its vice-presidential candidate and other contestants, will be submitted within the prescribed timelines, ensuring full compliance with Nigeria’s electoral laws.
