Nicki Minaj cancels album, blames Jay-Z
Rapper Nicki Minaj has announced she is canceling the release of her much-anticipated album and blamed Jay-Z and Roc Nation for the decision. In a public post, she wrote: “Ok I’m not going to put out the album anymore. No more music. Hope you’re happy now,” tagging Jay-Z. She also bid farewell to her fans—known as the “Barbz”—by writing, “Bye, Barbz. Love you for life.”
Nicki had earlier teased the album for a March 27, 2026 launch. That date still appears pinned in her social media profile despite her cancellation announcement. Many interpreted her sudden withdrawal and attack on Jay-Z as a response to ongoing tensions over music industry deals and compensation.
In her messages, she accused Roc Nation of “begging” her for a tour and album, which she refused, and hinted at financial disagreements tied to her stake in the streaming service TIDAL. She also mocked Jay-Z’s failed casino bid and criticized Roc Nation’s management, including CEO Desiree Perez, for handling her career poorly.
While her fans are shocked, many remain skeptical whether this marks a permanent exit from music or a strategic move amid industry dispute. Only time will tell whether this album cancellation is definitive or a pause.
