Adamawa Hotel Beheading: Police Arrest Man Over Alleged Killing Of Woman
The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the alleged beheading of a middle-aged woman inside a hotel room in Girei Local Government Area, an urban community near the state capital, Yola.
The incident occurred on Friday afternoon, August 14, 2026, at Novex Hotel, where the suspect had reportedly checked in alongside the victim. According to accounts from sources within the area, people around the hotel heard sounds of a violent struggle coming from the room shortly after the pair checked in. Alarmed by the commotion, members of the public forced their way into the room, where they allegedly discovered the woman lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut to her neck. The suspect was said to have been apprehended by members of the public at the scene before police arrived to take over the case.
The woman’s remains were subsequently evacuated from the hotel to an undisclosed hospital, while efforts continued to formally identify her, as her identity had yet to be fully confirmed at the time of filing. Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said the command had commenced a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing. “The Command has commenced full investigation into the incident. Further details will be communicated to members of the public as the investigation progresses,” Nguroje said.
The police spokesperson also used the opportunity to appeal to residents of the area to exercise restraint and avoid taking the law into their own hands while the investigation continues. “The Command urges members of the public to remain calm, avoid jungle justice, and allow the police to conclude the investigation,” Nguroje stated, an appeal that comes against the backdrop of past incidents in the state where members of the public have taken drastic action against suspects in similar cases before police could intervene.
As of the time of filing, police had not disclosed the identity of the suspect in custody, nor had they revealed further circumstances that may have led to the alleged attack, including whether the suspect and victim were previously known to each other or had any prior relationship. The motive behind the killing also remained unclear, with investigators yet to establish what triggered the altercation that reportedly preceded the woman’s death.
The incident has shocked residents of Girei and the wider Yola metropolis, coming amid a string of similar violent crimes reported in hotels and lodging facilities across parts of northern Nigeria in recent times, some of which have previously been linked to suspected ritual killings. Authorities have not yet indicated whether ritual motives are being considered in this case. The Adamawa State Police Command has promised to keep the public updated as the investigation progresses, while urging anyone with useful information related to the incident to come forward and assist detectives working on the case.
