2027 Election: Kwankwaso Declares Obi-Kwankwaso Ticket Unbeatable in Credibility and Capacity
Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, Vice-Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress, has declared that no rival ticket in the 2027 presidential election can match the combination of himself and Peter Obi when it comes to credibility, capacity and genuine concern for ordinary citizens. The former Kano State governor made the assertion during an appearance on the News Agency of Nigeria Personality Interview Series held in Abuja on Sunday. According to him, the pairing of Obi and himself is positioned to defeat any other contender that emerges ahead of the next presidential contest, describing the union as one built on shared values and a common desire to see meaningful change take root across the country.
Kwankwaso explained that the decision to bring both political figures together on one ticket was deliberate, aimed at producing a balanced platform capable of uniting Nigerians across regional and religious lines. He noted that the arrangement draws on Peter Obi’s strong support base in the southern part of the country, while his own political influence in the North helps extend the ticket’s reach into that region. According to him, this blend creates what he described as a genuinely national platform, one designed to appeal broadly rather than being confined to any single geographic or religious bloc within the country.
Speaking further on the strength of the alliance, Kwankwaso stated plainly that no other political combination could rival theirs in terms of credibility, capacity or love for the country. He extended this claim to include empathy for the poor, arguing that the hardship faced by everyday Nigerians today calls for leadership that genuinely understands and prioritizes their struggles. He described the partnership as a reflection of years of political experience combined with a renewed sense of purpose, positioning it as the most credible option available to voters when the 2027 election eventually takes place.
The former governor also addressed his personal journey toward accepting the vice-presidential role, noting that despite his extensive political background, which includes service as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, a two-term governor, a federal minister and a sitting senator, he had never previously served as vice president. He described the position as a step forward rather than a setback, emphasizing that his experience from the 2023 election cycle gave him a deeper understanding of Obi and reinforced his belief that the two of them could work effectively together toward a shared national goal.
On the broader justification for seeking a change in national leadership, Kwankwaso pointed to a combination of worsening insecurity, deepening poverty, deteriorating infrastructure and mounting difficulties facing farmers across the country. He argued that the removal of the fuel subsidy had failed to translate into any meaningful improvement in the standard of living for ordinary citizens, while farmers continued to struggle under the weight of cheap imported food undermining local agricultural production. According to him, these unresolved challenges make a compelling case for a shift in leadership come 2027.
Kwankwaso further explained that the coalition bringing together the Kwankwasiyya Movement, the National Democratic Congress and Obi’s support base is intended to produce a democratic transformation comparable to the political shift Nigeria experienced in 2015. He stressed that the partnership is anchored on principles of fairness, justice and equity, adding that both he and Obi remain firmly committed to improving the everyday lives of Nigerians through policies that address the core issues affecting citizens across different sectors of the economy and society.
