Jamal Musiala Collapse: Bayern Star Collapses During Match For Second Time In Four Days
Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala has revealed he is being treated for a neurological condition after collapsing on the pitch for the second time in four days, sparking renewed concern among fans and the club over the 23-year-old’s health.
The latest incident occurred on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, during a pre-season friendly against FC Heidenheim, which Bayern went on to win 4-2. Musiala had come on as a substitute in the 61st minute and went down off the ball just minutes later, prompting Bayern’s medical team to rush onto the pitch as concerned teammates gathered around him. He appeared dazed as he received treatment but was eventually able to walk off the field under his own power after being helped to his feet.
The collapse came just four days after a strikingly similar episode during Bayern’s 3-1 friendly win over RB Leipzig on Saturday, August 15. In that match, Musiala had come on as a substitute in the 81st minute and even scored a goal before appearing unsteady and falling to the pitch, with teammate Ismael Saibari reacting quickly to help cushion his fall. German news agency SID reported at the time that Musiala had complained of dizziness, circulatory issues and feeling feverish following that match, with German outlet Bild initially suggesting that high temperatures of around 33 degrees Celsius in Munich may have contributed to circulatory problems.
Following Tuesday’s second collapse, Musiala took to Instagram to address the growing concern directly, revealing the medical explanation behind both incidents. “First things first — I’m doing well! I am incredibly grateful for your messages and your support. I understand that many of you are worried. I would like to put those concerns to rest today and explain the situation: I have been diagnosed with brief, temporary but treatable absence seizures resulting from a neurological dysfunction,” he wrote. He added that the condition could explain both recent episodes, including the incidents against Leipzig and Heidenheim, and stressed that specialists monitoring his case had confirmed there was no additional long-term health risk. He also asked for privacy regarding the matter going forward, saying he intended to share further details only with his closest circle, the club and his medical team.
Absence seizures are typically characterised by brief losses of awareness or short interruptions in activity, generally lasting only seconds, and can in some cases be managed with medication. Musiala said he had received medical clearance to continue playing football and living his everyday life, describing the decision to speak publicly about his diagnosis as his own personal choice.
The fresh health scare adds to a difficult run of physical setbacks for the German international, who missed the first six months of last season after fracturing his fibula during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. He returned to action in the second half of the campaign and went on to start three of Germany’s four matches at the 2026 World Cup this summer, where the Germans were eliminated in the round of 32 by Paraguay. Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl had earlier moved to reassure supporters following the first collapse against Leipzig, stating simply, “The most important thing is that he is fine. There is nothing to say about anything else.” With his diagnosis now public, attention turns to whether Musiala will be available as Bayern prepare to open their competitive season against Borussia Dortmund in the DFL Supercup on Saturday, ahead of the Bundesliga’s full return on August 28.
