Bandits abduct 11 children Zamfara farm
In a distressing incident in Zamfara State, northwest Nigeria, armed bandits abducted 11 children from their father’s farm in Ruwan Kaiwa village, located in the Kekun Waje District of Bungudu Local Government Area. The abduction occurred around 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2025, while the children were engaged in farm work. The attackers, reportedly riding motorcycles, seized the children and fled into the nearby forest. The victims’ father, who was present at the time, was left distraught and powerless to prevent the abduction.
The incident has heightened concerns over the escalating insecurity in Zamfara State, where banditry has become a pervasive threat to rural communities. Residents fear that the children may be used as leverage for ransom or subjected to other forms of exploitation. Authorities have launched an investigation into the abduction, but as of now, the whereabouts of the children remain unknown.
This abduction adds to a series of similar incidents in the region, where armed groups often target vulnerable populations for kidnapping. The persistent insecurity has disrupted daily life, with many farmers abandoning their fields and communities living in constant fear. Efforts to combat the threat have been challenged by limited resources and the vast, difficult terrain that bandits exploit for concealment and escape.
The Zamfara State government, alongside federal authorities, has pledged to intensify security operations to rescue the abducted children and curb the activities of armed groups in the region. However, the effectiveness of these measures remains to be seen, as the cycle of violence and abduction continues to plague the state.
