Reminisce Joins Toyin Abraham’s Bestie as Kazeem, aka Alaga Big Star, in December Cinema Release
Indigenous rapper Reminisce has been unveiled as the latest lead in Toyin Abraham’s forthcoming cinema film, Bestie. The Reminisce Bestie announcement was made by Abraham on her Instagram page on Monday, adding another well-known name to a cast she has been revealing in stages.
Reminisce, whose real name is reported as Remilekun Abdulkalid and who is popularly known for songs such as “Ponmile,” will play the character Kazeem, also known as Alaga Big Star. Abraham described him as the “GOAT of all GOATs” and confirmed that he is one of the lead cast members. Sharing a clip of the rapper in character, she praised his energy, madness and talent on set, and said he came, saw and brought the house down.
Abraham has also explained that getting him on board was not easy. She said it took six months to convince Reminisce to return to acting, after his earlier role in the crime drama King of Boys. The rapper’s screen appearances have been limited, which makes his return to a lead role in a mainstream cinema release a notable move for fans of both his music and Nollywood.
The reveal follows a series of announcements. Abraham began the official unveiling of the Bestie cast on Monday, September 14, starting with veteran actor Pete Edochie, who plays Papa Ngozi. Nollywood veteran Sola Sobowale was named as Mama Ngozi. Others confirmed so far include BBNaija Season 10 winner Imisi as Suzy Baby, Maurice Sam as Peter, Yakubu Mohammed as Hassan and comedian Lizzy Jay as Kaffy. One report lists Lizzy Jay’s role differently, so viewers should await official confirmation of character names.
Bestie is scheduled to open in cinemas nationwide on December 16, 2026. Abraham first announced the project on Friday, September 4, through a video showcasing her previous theatrical releases, including Ijakumo: The Born Again Stripper, Malaika, Alakada: Bad and Boujee and Oversabi Aunty. She has described the new film as different from her earlier projects. Plot details and a trailer have not yet been released.
The film arrives on the back of a major success. Oversabi Aunty, her directorial debut, crossed the ₦1 billion mark at the West African box office in early 2026 and earned her recognition from the National Film and Video Censors Board. Vanguard reports that she is currently Nigeria’s second-highest-grossing filmmaker, behind Funke Akindele, and will be looking to chase another billion-naira run with Bestie.
That comparison matters this December. Akindele’s The Four: No One Fights Alone is due in cinemas on December 11, only five days before Bestie. The two films are expected to compete for audiences during one of Nollywood’s busiest seasons, and cast reveals are part of both camps’ campaigns.
More announcements are expected as Abraham continues her staged unveiling, with fans watching for additional names and, eventually, a trailer.
