The Nigerian international presented the luxury vehicle to the FC Robo International founder and head coach as a gesture of gratitude for the support and guidance he provided during her early years in football.
The presentation, which took place in Lagos, has attracted attention after FC Robo acknowledged the gift and praised the footballer for remembering the people who helped shape her journey.
Oshoala rewards former coach for his support
According to a statement released by FC Robo International on Thursday, November 5, 2026, Orobosa played an important role in developing Oshoala’s football talent from her teenage years.
The club recalled that their relationship began in 2009, when the forward was still working to establish herself as a young footballer.
FC Robo described the Toyota Highlander as a meaningful demonstration of appreciation, noting that Oshoala had not forgotten the people who supported her before she became an internationally recognised player.
A video of the presentation also circulated online, showing Orobosa approaching the vehicle, entering it and inspecting its interior. The coach appeared excited as he received the gift.
Coach played key role in Oshoala’s early career
Orobosa is widely recognised for his contribution to women’s grassroots football in Nigeria through FC Robo International.
The coach helped nurture Oshoala’s abilities at a time when she faced challenges pursuing football professionally. Her parents initially wanted her to concentrate on education rather than sports.
Oshoala previously spoke about those difficulties in a 2023 interview with BBC Sport. She explained that her family did not initially support her football ambitions and that her grandmother encouraged her to continue pursuing her dream.
Reports also credited Orobosa with helping to persuade her family to allow her to develop her football career.
Oshoala began her organised football journey at FC Robo in 2009 before moving to Rivers Angels in 2013. Her performances eventually opened the door to opportunities outside Nigeria.
Oshoala remembers club that discovered her
The latest gift is not the first time the footballer has supported her former club.
FC Robo recalled that Oshoala previously donated a bus to the organisation during her early years in Europe. The club described the latest gesture as another example of her continued connection to the people who helped her develop.
Orobosa has also contributed to the development of other Nigerian female footballers, including Super Falcons players Rasheedat Ajibade and Gift Monday.
The club’s development programme has continued to produce players for Nigerian women’s football, reinforcing its role in the country’s grassroots system.
Oshoala’s successful international career
Oshoala has established herself as one of Africa’s most accomplished female footballers.
She has played for several clubs, including Liverpool, Arsenal, Dalian Quanjian, Barcelona and Bay FC, before joining Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal in 2025.
At international level, she has represented Nigeria at multiple major competitions and won the CAF African Women’s Player of the Year award six times, a record achievement.
Her decision to reward the coach who supported her early development has drawn attention to the importance of grassroots football and mentorship.
The gesture also highlights how established athletes can recognise the contributions of coaches and institutions that helped them achieve success.
