Diewait Ikpechukwu’s Daughter Asks AGN to Remove Post
Chiamaka, the daughter of late Nollywood actor Diewait Ikpechukwu, has asked the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) to take down its social media post announcing her father’s death. She made the appeal in a tearful Instagram video, according to several Nigerian outlets, hours after news of the 71-year-old’s passing emerged.
What She Said
In the video, Chiamaka, who is also known online as Chiamax, said, “Let me be the one to announce my papa’s death,” according to Naija News. She asked the guild to remove its post and told people not to call her.
She also urged the guild and members of the public not to share her father’s pictures or death posters, NewsClick reported. The Whistler said she described the video as very hard to make.
Headtopics reported that, appearing tearful in the video, she asked people to stop calling her and let her grieve in private, saying that if anyone should announce his passing it would be her.
Ladun Liadi’s blog said she asked people to respect her family’s wishes and allow them to grieve privately, adding that she will share his picture and any necessary information herself when she is ready.
The AGN Announcement
AGN National President Abubakar Sanusi Yakubu announced Ikpechukwu’s death in an Instagram tribute on Friday, November 6, 2026, describing him as a legend, according to Naija News. Chiamaka’s video was a reaction to that post, according to The Sun. In his tribute, Yakubu wrote “Another Legend bows out!!” according to YEN.
Outlets describe the post differently. Most call it a mourning or condolence post, while Kemi Filani News refers to an alleged burial poster. No report reviewed gave a burial date.
Saga Gist reported that she also questioned why the movie industry waits until members die to show love, a point most other outlets did not mention.
Background
Ikpechukwu, a former footballer, died on Thursday, November 5, 2026, aged 71, reportedly after a prolonged illness, according to Ladun Liadi’s blog and Kemi Filani News. Other reports described the illness as undisclosed.
The Whistler reported that his acting career spans more than two decades. Earlier reports by YEN and Leadership said he was born on August 23, 1955, played football in the 1970s and later moved into radio commentary and Nollywood.
Reaction and Next Steps
None of the reports reviewed carried a response from the AGN to the request, and it was not clear whether the post had been removed.
Zalebs said the episode has renewed debate about family privacy and public tributes.
Funeral arrangements have not been announced in the reports reviewed. Joydey9ja.com will update this report if the family or the AGN makes a statement.
