ADC Chieftain Timi Frank Urges U.S. to Impose Visa Ban on Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Officials
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Timi Frank, has called on the United States government to impose visa restrictions on officials serving under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing concerns over governance and democratic accountability.
Frank made the appeal amid growing political tensions in Nigeria, alleging that some government officials are undermining democratic institutions and failing to uphold transparency. He argued that imposing visa bans would serve as a strong deterrent against actions that could weaken the country’s democratic system.
According to him, such measures by the United States would send a clear message about the importance of respecting democratic values and human rights. He further claimed that international pressure has historically played a role in encouraging political reforms in countries facing governance challenges.
The former deputy national publicity secretary of the party also expressed concern over what he described as a lack of accountability among key government figures. He maintained that targeted sanctions, including visa restrictions, would compel public office holders to act in line with democratic principles.
Frank’s position comes at a time when Nigeria’s political environment is under increased scrutiny both locally and internationally. His remarks are likely to generate debate over the role of foreign governments in influencing domestic political affairs.
While there has been no official response from the United States regarding this specific call, such actions typically depend on diplomatic assessments and established foreign policy priorities.
The development adds to ongoing political discourse surrounding governance, accountability, and international relations in Nigeria.
