ADC Crisis: Marafa Accuses INEC of Bias, Claims Commission Filled with APC Loyalists
A former Nigerian lawmaker, Kabiru Marafa, has alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission is populated by individuals loyal to the ruling All Progressives Congress, intensifying the ongoing crisis within the African Democratic Congress.
Marafa made the claim amid rising tension over the leadership dispute in the ADC, which has drawn attention from opposition figures and political observers across the country. He argued that the composition of INEC raises serious concerns about neutrality and fairness in handling internal party matters.
According to him, the electoral body’s actions in the ADC crisis suggest a pattern of bias that could undermine confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process. He maintained that the commission must remain independent and avoid any perception of political influence, especially as the country moves closer to future elections.
The allegation comes shortly after protests by opposition leaders at INEC headquarters in Abuja, where demonstrators demanded recognition of a particular faction within the ADC. The situation has further exposed divisions within the party and heightened political tensions nationwide.
Marafa urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and called for reforms to strengthen the credibility of electoral institutions. He emphasized that a transparent and impartial electoral system is essential for sustaining democracy and ensuring fair political competition.
INEC has not issued an official response to the allegation at the time of reporting. However, political analysts note that such claims, if left unaddressed, could deepen distrust in the electoral process and affect public perception ahead of upcoming elections.
As the ADC crisis continues to unfold, stakeholders are closely watching how INEC responds to both the petition before it and the growing accusations of bias from political actors.
