Adedosun Street Agege residents cry out over violent neighbour
Residents of Adedosun Street, off Akilo Road in Agege, Lagos, have raised alarm over a neighbour whom they describe as extremely violent. They say the man has repeatedly attacked neighbouring houses by throwing stones and other dangerous objects from his compound, and has threatened residents with knives and broken bottles. Some even claim he has boasted of owning a gun.
In a video released by locals, one woman speaking in Yoruba appealed to the Lagos State Government and security agencies to intervene before the situation worsens. She said many families now live in fear and children can no longer play freely outside their homes.
The residents also accuse the Area G Police Station of repeatedly ignoring their complaints. They claim that officers only respond when money is offered, and otherwise do nothing to address the threat.
This situation reflects a broader challenge in many communities: when law enforcement fails to act impartially, residents feel unsafe and powerless. The neighbours’ allegations suggest possible abuse of authority, or at least grave neglect, by the police.
For lasting improvement, several steps are crucial: an independent probe into the police’s conduct, prompt and transparent action against the violent neighbour, and provision of protection for victims in the area. Community leaders and state authorities should also set up safe reporting channels for residents to lodge complaints without fear.
