Legendary actor Al Pacino has reportedly expressed deep regret over never marrying his longtime ex-girlfriend, the late Diane Keaton. Keaton passed away at age 79, and close sources say Pacino now considers not making that commitment one of his biggest life regrets.

Pacino and Keaton first met in the early 1970s while working together on The Godfather. Their on-again, off-again relationship lasted through much of the 1970s and 1980s, but ended in 1990 after Keaton reportedly gave Pacino an ultimatum about marriage, which he declined.

A friend of the actor told media outlets that Pacino often referred to Keaton as “the love of his life” and an “amazing woman,” and that he will “forever regret” never making his move when he had the chance.

According to reports, in later years, even while living just a few miles apart in Beverly Hills, the pair rarely (if ever) spoke. One source claims that after their split, Pacino would say things like “if it’s meant to be, it’s never too late for a do-over,” though those regrets remain unfulfilled.

Despite his regret, Keaton herself had expressed that marriage may not have suited their relationship. In interviews, she once said that she thought marriage might have been a mistake for them both. She also reflected that their lives were mismatched and that maintaining independence was more important than settling into a traditional marital role.
