Anambra PDP Crisis: Onowu Seeks Wike’s Intervention, Threatens Court Action
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, Chief Chukwudi Onowu, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to intervene in the ongoing leadership dispute within the party in the state, warning that he may seek legal redress if the issues are not resolved.
Onowu made the appeal amid growing tensions among members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Anambra, where internal disagreements over party structure and leadership positions have continued to create divisions among stakeholders. According to him, the situation threatens the unity of the party and could weaken its political prospects in the state if urgent steps are not taken.
Speaking during a media interaction, the PDP chieftain said the intervention of Wike, who remains a prominent figure within the party’s national leadership, could help restore order and ensure fairness in addressing the grievances raised by aggrieved members. He argued that experienced leaders within the party must step in to prevent the dispute from escalating further.
Onowu expressed dissatisfaction with what he described as irregularities in the handling of party affairs in the state. He claimed that some decisions taken by certain party officials had undermined internal democracy and sidelined legitimate stakeholders who should be part of the decision-making process.
While emphasizing his loyalty to the PDP, Onowu warned that he would not hesitate to approach the courts if the issues are not resolved through internal mechanisms. According to him, the legal option remains available to any member seeking to protect his rights within the framework of the law and the party’s constitution.
Political observers say internal conflicts within political parties are not uncommon in Nigeria, particularly as groups position themselves ahead of major elections. However, prolonged disputes often affect party cohesion and can influence voter confidence.
Analysts also note that intervention by senior party figures has historically helped resolve similar conflicts within the PDP in different states. Stakeholders are therefore watching closely to see whether Wike or other national leaders will respond to the appeal and facilitate dialogue among the warring factions.
As the situation develops, party members in Anambra are urging leaders to prioritize unity and reconciliation in order to strengthen the PDP’s structure and prepare for future political contests in the state.
