Anambra police call for information on cult-initiation video involving minor
The Anambra State Police Command has called on members of the public to provide helpful information in identifying individuals featured in a viral video that shows an alleged cult-initiation ceremony involving a minor. The footage, which is circulating widely on social media, depicts what appears to be a very young child with his face covered by a red cloth while another boy administers what looks like a liquid mixed with blood from one of the child’s fingers.
According to the police, a preliminary review indicates that the incident may have occurred in a community within Anambra State. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, described the video as “disturbing” and emphasised that the acts portrayed are criminal and offend public morality as well as the protection of children.
In his statement, Ikenga reported that the State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has instructed the Anti-Cultism Squad, Juvenile Welfare Unit and the State Intelligence Department to work together to verify the authenticity of the video, determine its location, identify the victim to ensure his safety and wellbeing, and apprehend all individuals involved or complicit in the act.
The public has been urged to assist the investigation by submitting any credible information. The notification includes assurance that the identities of informants will be protected and all reports processed with confidentiality. The police have provided contact numbers 112, 07039194332 or the PPRO at 08039334002 for voluntary information.
The call for assistance comes amid ongoing efforts by the Anambra Command to clamp down on cult-related activities, especially those involving minors or indoctrination in the state. The command reiterated that no form of child abuse, indoctrination or forced initiation will be tolerated.
