Army rescues kidnapped passengers in Kogi
The Nigerian Army has confirmed the successful rescue of 21 passengers who were kidnapped by armed criminals in Kogi State. The victims were abducted while travelling along a major highway in the state, an incident that caused widespread fear among residents and regular road users. The military said the rescue followed a well-coordinated operation based on intelligence reports and swift troop deployment.
According to the Army, troops engaged the kidnappers in a fierce encounter, forcing them to retreat and abandon the captives during the operation. All 21 rescued passengers were freed without any reported loss of life among the victims. Some of the rescued persons were said to be in shock and are currently receiving medical attention and security support.
The Army praised the cooperation of local communities and security agencies, which helped in tracking the movement of the kidnappers. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and dismantle criminal hideouts within the area. The military also assured the public that sustained operations will continue to keep major roads and communities in Kogi safe.
Residents have expressed relief over the rescue, while calling on the government to strengthen security along highways to prevent future abductions. The incident has renewed public attention on the growing threat of kidnapping for ransom in parts of the North Central region.
