Arrest of 75 suspected criminals along Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road.
Seventy-five suspected criminals were arrested along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road in a coordinated security operation by the Lagos State Police Command and other law enforcement agencies. The crackdown, confirmed by Lagos authorities, saw the suspects taken into custody over suspected involvement in various criminal activities along the major highway that links Lagos with the South-South and South-East regions of Nigeria. The group apprehended included 68 men and seven women, who were found in possession of items believed to be illicit drugs and other contraband during the operation. The arrests form part of intensified efforts by the police to tackle rising insecurity and criminal networks along the coastal corridor, where rising traffic and construction activity have attracted increased patrols and surveillance. Security officials said the operation was prompted by credible intelligence on criminal movements along the highway and aimed to deter crime and protect road users. Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that the suspects will be processed according to the law and that investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of their alleged offences as enforcement continues on the expanding transport route.
