Assassination attempt on Ondo monarch arrested

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested ten suspects over an attempt to assassinate the monarch of Igoba community in Akure North Local Government Area. The traditional ruler, Oba John Adinlewa, narrowly escaped death when the assailants stormed his palace.

The attack took place on October 2, 2025 at about 11:30 a.m. A group of armed individuals invaded the Igoba community, wielding firearms, machetes, knives, charms, and other dangerous weapons. Before advancing to the monarch’s palace, they reportedly attacked a woman named Mrs. Ogunoye Oluomo, injuring her and taking her belongings.

Upon receiving a distress call, Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal, deployed a tactical unit led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of operations. That team arrested the ten suspects at the scene.

Items recovered from the suspects include two locally fabricated pistols, one single-barrel gun, live ammunition, knives, machetes, and charms. The suspects have reportedly confessed to their roles in the attack. The injured victim is receiving treatment and the police say normalcy has been restored to the community. Further investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged in court.
