Ayo Fayose funeral wishes
Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele “Ayo” Fayose has publicly laid out very specific wishes for how he wants his burial to be handled when he dies. Speaking in a video released on his 65th birthday, he made clear that he expects the Ekiti State Government to take full responsibility for his body and the arrangements, rather than leaving it solely to his family.
Fayose emphasized that he must be buried within four weeks (one month) of his death. He gave this timeline to ensure the state has “enough time” to prepare. He also said his children should wear their own clothes and follow whatever instructions the government gives on how to conduct the burial.
On where he wants to be laid to rest, Fayose said he made a garden in his grandmother’s home (his paternal grandmother) and that should be his final resting place. Importantly, he instructed that after he is buried, no one must visit that grave: “Allow me to go,” he said.
He also appealed to people to “show me love … now,” meaning he’d rather be appreciated while he’s alive rather than in death.
His clear and firm instructions have sparked discussion about how public figures plan their legacies and how governments might handle final rites.
