Badaru Abubakar resigns as Defence Minister
Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has resigned from his position with immediate effect. The resignation was communicated in a letter dated December 1, 2025, addressed to Bola Tinubu. The official announcement was made by the presidential spokesperson, who said Abubakar stepped down on account of health concerns.
President Tinubu accepted the resignation and expressed gratitude for Abubakar’s service, while indicating that a successor will be sent to the Senate for confirmation later this week.
The resignation comes amid a period of heightened national security emergency declared by the federal government. Observers are watching closely as the president is expected to announce a replacement soon.
