Bauchi police rescue abducted siblings

The Bauchi State Police Command has successfully rescued two abducted siblings and arrested a relative suspected of orchestrating the crime. The two minors, 12-year-old Halima Hamisu and her 6-year-old brother Mohammed Aliyu Hamisu, were reported missing on October 23, 2025 in Tilden Fulani community, Toro Local Government Area, Bauchi State, as they waited for their school bus.

According to the Command’s spokesman, Ahmed Wakil, an eyewitness reported seeing a man on a tricycle pick up the children. The kidnapper later demanded a ransom of ₦50 million but after negotiation agreed to a reduced amount of ₦1.2 million.

Operatives arrested the suspect—identified as Abdulkarim Tasiu, a family member of the victims—at Farmers Motors Junction in Bauchi while he was collecting the ransom. He confessed during interrogation that he carried out the abduction due to a long-standing dispute with the children’s father.

Further investigation led the police to Anguwan Rukuba in Jos, Plateau State where the children were found and safely reunited with their father, Aliyu Hamisu.

The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Sani‑Omolori Aliyu, commended the detectives for their swift action and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity without delay.
