Bode George warns Nigerians will not accept glitch excuses in 2027 elections
Chief Bode George, a senior chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has warned that Nigerians will not accept stories of glitches or excuses about system failures in the conduct of the 2027 general elections. Speaking on a current affairs programme on Channels Television, George addressed the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, urging him to ensure a smooth and credible electoral process without the technical failures that marred the 2023 elections. He recalled that after the last general election, complaints about system glitches were widespread despite the procurement of necessary electoral tools, and he insisted that such explanations would no longer be acceptable to the Nigerian electorate as the nation approaches the next polls. George’s remarks reflect broader concerns about the transparency and reliability of electoral technology in Nigeria, and highlight the expectations of political stakeholders and citizens that the 2027 elections should be free of the controversies that dogged previous polls. His comments come amid preparations for the national elections, with many Nigerians expressing a desire for greater confidence in the electoral system and for reforms that will bolster trust in the overall process.
