British Netflix star and rapper Ghetts charged after 20-year-old man killed in hit-and-run

British rapper and actor Ghetts (real name Justin Clarke-Samuel) has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident in east London. On Saturday, 18 October, he allegedly struck a 20-year-old man on Redbridge Lane East in Ilford and failed to stop at the scene.

The victim was taken to hospital and died on Monday — the same day Clarke-Samuel appeared at Stratford Magistrates’ Court. Clarke-Samuel, aged 41, has been charged with “causing serious injury by dangerous driving,” though prosecutors say the charge is expected to be upgraded to “causing death by dangerous driving” at the next court appearance on 27 October at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court.

Police say the incident remains under investigation and they are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Ghetts is a prominent figure in the UK grime scene, nominated twice for the Mercury Prize and recipient of the MOBO Pioneer Award in 2024. He also stars in the Netflix series Supacell.
