Christiane Amanpour ovarian cancer return
Veteran journalist and anchor Christiane Amanpour has announced that her ovarian cancer has returned. In a candid discussion on the “Changing the Ovarian Cancer Story” podcast, she revealed that the disease has recurred for a third time.
Amanpour explained that although she had “all of the relevant organs removed,” the cancer resurfaced and manifested in a lymph node. Her oncologist, Dr Angela George from London’s The Royal Marsden Hospital, confirmed that Amanpour is dealing with a rare subtype of ovarian cancer — accounting for fewer than 10 percent of cases — and that she is now being treated with immunotherapy.
Despite the recurrence, Amanpour stated that her current condition is “being very well managed.” She emphasized that frequent screenings and vigilant monitoring have been instrumental in detecting the relapse early.
Amanpour used the moment to reaffirm the importance of listening to one’s body and advocating for timely health checks. She credited the strong support of her family, friends and colleagues for sustaining her emotional and physical well-being through this journey.
Her public disclosure aims to raise awareness about ovarian cancer — often called the “silent killer” due to its vague symptoms and the difficulty of early diagnosis. Earlier, in 2021, Amanpour had first announced her ovarian cancer diagnosis, underwent surgery and chemotherapy, and later shared her experience in hopes of encouraging early detection
