Cinematographer Jude Eze reacts to Regina Daniels plea

A Nigerian cinematographer, Jude Eze, has sharply responded to Regina Daniels’ recent plea for help from Nigerians, reminding her of comments she made during the 2020 EndSARS protests. He pointed out that while she has now called on Nigerians to support her family amid a crisis, she previously dismissed the same young protesters as “children” when they were demonstrating against police brutality.

In a post shared on social media, Jude Eze included a screenshot of Daniels’ 2020 video and wrote: “October 2020, when we were protesting against police brutality and bad governance, Regina Daniels set up her tripod, camera and ring-light not to lend her voice to the struggle of young Nigerians like herself simply demanding our basic human rights, but to reprimand us for protesting like we were children.” He added that the same Nigerians she once criticised are now being asked to come to her aid: “Today the same Regina is on the internet crying for help from the same Nigerians she mocked for the same police brutality we were protesting against. Today the dysfunction of the Nigerian system has caught up with her and she finally feels what we feel.”

The controversy arises after Regina Daniels released a video early this week, appealing to Nigerians to support her amid turmoil involving her brother’s arrest and what she described as her family being “in crisis”. Her earlier remarks during the EndSARS protests had drawn criticism at that time as well, when she advised protesters to keep demonstrations peaceful and warned of violent turnarounds remarks that many young Nigerians felt were out of touch with their plight.

Jude Eze’s response underscores a broader critique of perceived inconsistency and privilege. He described the situation as “poetic justice” noting that those who once ignored or belittled the demands of ordinary Nigerians are now calling on them for help.
