Circle Mom Fertility Foundation in Abuja has unveiled a major initiative to support families facing infertility by offering discounted IVF, full IVF sponsorships, and surrogacy services. The foundation’s launch event focused on raising awareness of infertility-related stigma, emotional pain, and legal issues surrounding assisted reproduction. Founder Dr. Charles Ojeabuo emphasised that many couples suffer in silence, burdened by shame, rejection, and loneliness because of infertility. He said the foundation seeks to transform that suffering into stories of hope and joy.

During the launch, the theme was “Medical, Legal and Ethical Dimension of Third Party Human Production.” A speaker at the event, legal expert Babayemi Olawole, explained that while Nigeria currently lacks specific national laws regulating IVF and third-party reproduction, there are constitutional protections for family life and private life. He also cautioned against traditional surrogacy where the surrogate mother provides the egg, noting that gestational surrogacy avoids biological links and may reduce legal complications.

Several individuals present at the ceremony were selected to receive full IVF sponsorships and surrogacy support. Others will benefit from reduced cost services under the foundation’s programmes. Dr. Ojeabuo promised that the foundation would provide continued psychological, medical, and legal support to couples using the services. He called on medical practitioners, infertility clinics, and legal professionals to collaborate in establishing ethical guidelines and oversight for more transparent reproductive services.

The announcement has been met with widespread community response. Couples living with infertility have expressed relief and gratitude, saying that accessibility and cost have been major barriers. Some religious and cultural leaders have welcomed the effort, seeing it as compassionate. At the same time, a few voices raised concerns about how surrogacy and IVF might be viewed in communities with conservative beliefs. Others asked for guarantees that oversight, consent, and transparency will always be preserved.
