Dauda Lawal says Appeal Court judgment ended his stay in PDP
Dauda Lawal has stated that the recent judgment of the Court of Appeal concerning the controversial party convention held in Ibadan marked the end of his stay in the Peoples Democratic Party. The governor explained that the ruling significantly influenced his decision to leave the opposition party.
Lawal said the Appeal Court’s decision clarified several issues surrounding the internal disputes within the PDP, particularly those related to the legitimacy of the Ibadan convention and the party’s leadership structure. According to him, the outcome of the legal process made it clear that remaining in the party would not align with his political convictions.
The governor noted that prolonged internal disagreements and legal battles have created uncertainty within the PDP, making it difficult for many members to maintain confidence in the party’s direction. He emphasized that political stability and clear leadership structures are essential for effective participation in Nigeria’s democratic system.
The Ibadan convention has been a central issue in the ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP, with different factions contesting the validity of decisions taken during the gathering. The Appeal Court ruling has therefore become a major turning point in the dispute, prompting reactions from several party stakeholders.
Political analysts say the decision by Lawal could have wider implications for opposition politics in Nigeria. Observers believe that further defections or realignments may occur as politicians reposition themselves ahead of future elections.
