Dave Umahi declares loyalty to Tinubu ahead of future elections
Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has declared that he will remain firmly aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political future, stating that once Tinubu is on the ballot, he will also be on the ballot. Umahi made the statement while addressing supporters and party stakeholders, stressing his unwavering loyalty to the President and his commitment to the agenda of the All Progressives Congress. According to him, Tinubu’s leadership represents continuity and stability, and he sees his own political journey as closely tied to that of the President.
Umahi explained that his stance is rooted in what he described as Tinubu’s courage in taking tough decisions and pushing through reforms aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s economy and infrastructure. He said the President deserves the full backing of party members and loyalists who believe in his vision, adding that internal divisions or wavering support would only weaken the party ahead of future elections. His remarks were interpreted by many as a clear signal of readiness to support Tinubu’s re-election bid should the President decide to seek another term.
The former Ebonyi State governor also used the opportunity to urge party members to remain united and focused on governance rather than personal ambitions. He called on leaders at all levels to prioritise national interest and continue mobilising grassroots support for the administration’s programmes. Political observers note that Umahi’s declaration reinforces Tinubu’s growing support base within the ruling party as discussions around the 2027 general elections gradually intensify.
