Defence Minister Promises Strong APC National Convention Security in Abuja
Nigeria’s Minister of Defence has assured party delegates, officials and observers that comprehensive arrangements are being put in place to guarantee strong APC national convention security ahead of the ruling party’s gathering in Abuja. The assurance comes as preparations intensify for the national convention of the All Progressives Congress, an event expected to attract thousands of delegates and political stakeholders from across the country.

According to the defence minister, security agencies have been directed to implement proactive strategies designed to prevent potential threats and ensure the safety of all participants during the convention. The minister explained that the government considers the protection of lives and property during major political gatherings a critical national responsibility, particularly when such events involve large crowds and high-profile political leaders.
He stated that the security framework will involve close coordination among the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police Force, intelligence agencies and other relevant security bodies. The aim, he said, is to ensure that every aspect of the convention venue and surrounding areas is properly secured before, during and after the event.
Officials also revealed that security planning for the convention includes surveillance operations, access control systems and strategic deployment of security personnel. Roads leading to the venue may be monitored and certain areas could experience temporary traffic adjustments in order to maintain order and allow smooth movement for delegates and accredited participants.
Security experts note that conventions of major political parties in Nigeria often require elaborate safety arrangements due to the large number of attendees and the presence of prominent government officials. Previous conventions have seen thousands of delegates converge in Abuja, prompting the deployment of multiple security agencies to safeguard the venue and surrounding districts.
The defence minister urged all participants and members of the public to cooperate fully with security personnel by following established guidelines and accreditation procedures. He emphasized that the success of the convention will depend not only on effective planning by security agencies but also on discipline and cooperation from delegates and attendees.

He further expressed confidence that the proactive measures already being implemented would ensure a peaceful and well-organized convention, reinforcing the commitment of security institutions to protect democratic activities and political gatherings across the country.
