Defence Minister says terrorists weakened
Nigeria’s Defence Minister has said the military has significantly degraded the operational capacity of terrorist groups across the country, stressing that sustained security operations are yielding measurable results. He stated that coordinated efforts by the armed forces and other security agencies have disrupted the ability of insurgents and bandits to plan, fund, and execute large-scale attacks.
According to the minister, recent operations have led to the elimination of key terrorist leaders, the destruction of hideouts, and the recovery of weapons and ammunition. He explained that these actions have weakened command structures and reduced the frequency of coordinated assaults on communities and critical infrastructure. He added that improved intelligence sharing and inter-agency collaboration have played a vital role in these gains.
The defence chief acknowledged that security challenges still exist in some parts of the country, but maintained that progress is being made steadily. He said the military remains committed to protecting lives and property, while adapting strategies to respond to evolving threats. He also praised the resilience of troops operating in difficult terrains and conditions.
He called on citizens to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely information, noting that public cooperation is essential to sustaining the momentum achieved so far. The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to restoring lasting peace and stability, assuring Nigerians that efforts to completely dismantle terrorist networks will continue.
