DSS recaptures Ansaru terrorist from Kuje jailbreak
The Department of State Services (DSS) has recaptured a top Ansaru terrorist, Abdulazeez Obadaki, who escaped during the July 2022 jailbreak at Kuje Custodial Centre in Abuja.
Obadaki is accused of orchestrating the 2012 mass shooting of worshippers at a Deeper Life Bible Church in Okene, Kogi State — a brutal attack that killed 19 people. According to DSS sources, he admitted to playing a key role in the Kuje prison break, revealing that he was involved in planning it after being transferred from Kabba Custodial Centre in June 2022.
The recapture follows an intelligence-led operation by the DSS, which sources say was well-coordinated and based on “actionable intelligence.” Her arrest is seen as a major win for Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts, especially as the agency continues to dismantle Ansaru’s leadership.
Obadaki now faces re-arraignment on terrorism charges.
