Edo lawyer regains freedom after kidnapping

A young lawyer from Edo State, Onyesom Peace Udoka, has regained her freedom after four days in captivity. She was among a group abducted on September 26, 2025, while travelling from Abuja to Benin.

According to the report, Onyesom and eleven other travellers were seized by gunmen along the Okene–Auchi road in Kogi State. Eight of the survivors were freed earlier, leaving Onyesom and four others in captivity until her release. Her freedom was publicly confirmed by activist Harrison Gwamnishu in a social-media post from a village near Okpella.

Security officials confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing to bring the perpetrators to justice. The development comes amid rising concerns about kidnapping and abductions along major highways in the region.
