The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed one of its officers following allegations of misappropriating exhibits valued at more than N22 million.

The officer, identified as Polycarp Andrew, was serving as an exhibit‑keeper at the EFCC’s Kaduna Zonal Directorate before his termination. He is facing six‑count charges including criminal breach of trust after being accused of diverting funds entrusted to his custody.

According to the charge sheet, Andrew allegedly diverted various sums between January 2023 and June 2024. The amounts include US $11,900 (about N10.9 million), US $3,800 (about N5.9 million) and US $2,800 (about N3.8 million) which were under his watch as exhibits at the Kaduna office.

The case came before a Kaduna State High Court and was adjourned to December 11, 2025 for hearing. At the session, the prosecution indicated readiness to call two witnesses a commission officer and a representative from Opay bank while the defence requested additional time to examine video evidence of an extra‑judicial statement served on the accused.

In its statement, the EFCC described the dismissal and legal action as part of its determination to maintain integrity among its officers and to demonstrate that no staff member is above accountability.

As this matter proceeds to trial, it underscores the risks and responsibilities placed on officials tasked with safeguarding exhibits and assets in anti‑corruption agencies.
