Etinosa Idemudia speaks on trolling over PCOS symptoms
Nigerian actress and producer Etinosa Idemudia has opened up about enduring online trolling and body-shaming incidents related to her diagnosis of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). In several recent interviews and social-media posts, she revealed how the condition contributed to weight gain, abdominal changes, and visible symptoms that became targets for public mockery.
Etinosa explained that people often made disparaging remarks about her stomach and body shape, unaware that much of the change stemmed from PCOS. She shared: “My fat is largely caused by PCOS, but many people don’t know. We should all be kind to one another because everyone is dealing with something.” Punch This statement came in the context of her decision to undergo cosmetic surgery and body transformation, partly motivated by the “constant bullying and mockery” she faced.
Earlier, in an Instagram story, Etinosa addressed a social-media remark made by another celebrity about women with moustaches, writing that some women’s facial hair may result from medical conditions such as PCOS, and that such comments were insensitive. She emphasised that while “everyone is dealing with something,” the public should avoid making unsolicited judgments about someone’s body.
In her revelation about her reproductive health, Etinosa also shared that she battled PCOS and ultimately became a mother despite the diagnosis encouraging women who are trying to conceive not to lose hope. She wrote on social media: “This year I defeated PCOS. This year I carried my own child.”
Her candidness has sparked conversations about the often-hidden challenges of PCOS, the impact of trolling and body shaming on mental health, and the importance of empathy around personal and medical struggles.
