Festac DPO Matilda Ngbaronye dies after surgery
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the passing of Matilda Ngbaronye, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the Festac Division. She died on Friday, October 24, 2025, following surgery at the Mayriamville Medical Centre in Bode Thomas, Surulere.
In its statement, the police described her death as “a huge loss” and paid tribute to her as a disciplined, dedicated officer who served with integrity and professionalism. The nature of the surgery was cited as treatment for fibroid complications.
The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, and all officers of the command extended condolences to her husband, aged mother and her elder brother, who is a priest. Details of the burial arrangements are yet to be announced by the Command.
