FIFA introduces $60 World Cup tickets after criticism
FIFA has announced a new $60 ticket category for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after facing sustained global criticism over high ticket prices that many fans said made attending the tournament unaffordable. The governing body introduced what it calls a “Supporter Entry Tier” that will offer $60 seats for all 104 matches, including the final, in a bid to make tickets more accessible for loyal fans of participating national teams.
Under the new pricing structure, about 10 percent of each national federation’s ticket allocation will be reserved for these discounted tickets, which are intended to be distributed to supporters who are closely connected to teams and their followings, such as those who have supported their countries at home or abroad. National associations will determine how the tickets are distributed.
The change comes in response to widespread backlash from supporters’ groups and fans worldwide after initial ticket pricing plans showed extremely high costs, especially for key matches and final games. Critics had called earlier pricing “extortionate” and far above what many fans can afford, prompting FIFA to adjust its strategy.
While the announcement has been welcomed as a step toward more affordable access, some fan organisations and commentators say the move may not go far enough, because the reduced ticket category will still be limited in number compared with overall demand.
