Fubara joins APC to thank Tinubu
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has explained that his decision to join the All Progressives Congress was driven by a desire to thank President Bola Tinubu for his support and intervention in the state’s political situation. Fubara said the move was based on appreciation rather than political pressure, stressing that leadership requires gratitude and cooperation when support is genuinely offered.
The governor stated that President Tinubu played a stabilising role during a difficult period in Rivers State, helping to restore calm and ensure continuity of governance. According to him, the president’s actions demonstrated statesmanship and concern for democratic order, which he believes should be acknowledged openly. Fubara added that aligning with the APC would also allow him to work more closely with the federal government in delivering development to the people of Rivers State.
He emphasised that his defection was taken after consultations with key stakeholders and was guided by the interest of the state rather than personal ambition. The governor assured residents that his administration remains focused on good governance, transparency, and the welfare of the people, regardless of party affiliation.
Fubara’s statement has continued to generate reactions across the political space, with supporters describing the move as strategic, while critics see it as part of a wider realignment ahead of future elections. The governor, however, maintained that his priority remains effective leadership and sustained peace in Rivers State.
