Gaza storms kill Palestinians
Severe storms have swept through the Gaza Strip, killing at least 14 Palestinians, including three children, according to local emergency officials. The intense weather brought heavy rain, strong winds, and flooding that overwhelmed already fragile living conditions across several areas of the territory.
Rescue workers said many of the victims died when poorly built shelters collapsed or when floodwaters rushed into homes during the night. Families living in low-lying areas were among the worst affected, as drainage systems failed to cope with the volume of rainfall. Emergency teams worked through difficult conditions to recover bodies and assist injured residents.
Authorities in Gaza warned that the humanitarian situation has made the impact of extreme weather far more deadly. Ongoing shortages of proper housing materials, electricity, and basic infrastructure have left thousands exposed to the elements. Officials said children and the elderly remain especially vulnerable as more bad weather is expected in the coming days.
Humanitarian groups have renewed calls for urgent support, stressing that weather-related disasters are becoming more frequent and severe in the region. They warned that without immediate intervention to improve shelter and emergency response capacity, further loss of life could occur if the storms continue.
