Ghanaian prophet Ebo Noah arrested after failed ‘world ending’ Christmas flood prophecy
A Ghanaian prophet who claimed the world would end on Christmas Day through a massive flood has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service, sparking debate about misinformation and public safety. The prophet, Evans Eshun, popularly known as Ebo Noah, gained viral attention in 2025 after repeatedly announcing that a catastrophic flood would begin on December 25, 2025, and urged people to prepare by boarding large wooden “arks” he was building. His messages spread widely on social media and drew both curiosity and concern from the public as hundreds of followers reportedly travelled to his ark site and abandoned their homes in anticipation of the event. When the predicted disaster failed to occur, Ebo Noah released another video claiming divine intervention had postponed the flood, but his continuing public statements drew criticism and outrage from many Ghanaians.
Police confirmed that Ebo Noah was taken into custody on December 31, 2025, by the Inspector General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting Team amid increasing worries that his pronouncements and online activities could cause fear, panic and disruption ahead of New Year’s Eve and the traditional watch night services. Authorities emphasised that freedom of expression and religious belief must be exercised responsibly and in accordance with the law, and warned that claims likely to create public anxiety may result in legal action. At the time of his arrest, officials had not announced specific charges, court dates or bail conditions, saying only that he was in custody to assist with investigations. The operation underscores growing efforts by Ghanaian security forces to monitor and address statements and materials on social media that have the potential to disturb public peace and order.
