
Greg Biffle plane crash kills NASCAR legend and family
Legendary NASCAR driver Greg Biffle has died in a tragic plane crash in North Carolina, along with his wife and two children, authorities and family sources confirmed, sending shockwaves through the motorsports world. The Cessna 550 business jet, owned by Biffle’s aviation company, crashed near Statesville Regional Airport on Thursday morning, December 18, 2025, while attempting to return and land shortly after takeoff. The accident claimed the lives of all seven people on board.
Biffle, 55, was widely respected both on and off the track for his achievements and character. He was part of NASCAR’s elite group of drivers with championships in multiple series, excelling in the Truck Series and Xfinity Series, and earning 19 NASCAR Cup Series wins during his career. He was also named one of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers, a testament to his impact on the sport.
The plane was carrying Biffle’s wife, Cristina Grossu Biffle, and their young son Ryder, along with his 14-year-old daughter Emma, whom he shared with his first wife. Representatives also confirmed the deaths of three other passengers, identified as Dennis Dutton and his son Jack, and family friend Craig Wadsworth.
Authorities, including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), are investigating the cause of the crash, with initial reports noting poor weather conditions at the time of the accident. NASCAR, fans, and fellow drivers have expressed deep sorrow, honouring Biffle as a fierce competitor and humanitarian who gave of himself both on the racetrack and in service to others.
