How Nigerian Singer Ifunanya Died Of Snake Bite
Nigerian singer Ifunanya Lucy Nwangene, popularly known as Nanyah, tragically died at the age of 25 after being bitten by a snake at her home in Abuja. The incident occurred in the early hours of January 31, 2026, when a snake attacked her residence and inflicted a bite that quickly became life-threatening. She was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja, for emergency treatment but died later that day from severe complications linked to the snake bite. Her death was confirmed by the Amemuso Choir, where she sang as a soprano and was widely mourned as a rising musical talent.
Reports of her final hours show that she sought urgent medical care and visited more than one health facility, as she and those with her attempted to find treatment, including anti-venom medication, after the snake bite. Medical teams eventually provided emergency care, which reportedly included resuscitation, intravenous fluids, oxygen and polyvalent snake anti-venom at FMC. However, doctors said she had already developed severe neurotoxic effects from the bite by the time she reached hospital, and her condition deteriorated rapidly as staff prepared to transfer her for further care. Despite intensive efforts including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, she could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the facility.
Her death has sparked widespread grief in the Nigerian music community and on social media, with fans and fellow artists paying tribute to her talent and lamenting the loss of a promising young voice. Discussions have also renewed focus on emergency healthcare preparedness and the availability of critical treatments like anti-venom in medical facilities across the country.
