ICE arrests Nigerian cocaine trafficker
United States immigration authorities have arrested a 67-year-old Nigerian man who was previously convicted of cocaine trafficking in the country. The arrest was carried out by officers of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE, as part of ongoing enforcement actions targeting non-citizens with serious criminal records.
According to officials, the Nigerian national was taken into custody after his criminal history was reviewed and confirmed by federal authorities. He had earlier been convicted for his role in a cocaine trafficking operation, a crime classified as a serious drug offence under U.S. law. Following the arrest, he was placed in ICE custody pending further immigration proceedings.
ICE stated that individuals convicted of major drug-related crimes pose a significant risk to public safety. The agency said its priority remains the identification and removal of non-citizens who have committed serious offences, especially those linked to drug trafficking and organised crime. The suspect is expected to face deportation proceedings after the completion of required legal processes.
The arrest forms part of a broader effort by U.S. authorities to enforce immigration laws alongside criminal justice actions. Officials have reiterated that public safety remains at the core of these enforcement operations, particularly in cases involving narcotics trafficking and repeat offenders.
