Immigration warns of temporary passport system disruptions
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has warned the public that its Passport Digital Platform will experience temporary disruptions as the agency carries out scheduled system maintenance to improve performance and user experience. The maintenance exercise is expected to run from 12:00 a.m. on December 12 to 6:00 a.m. on December 14, 2025 (GMT), during which users may encounter service interruptions, slow response times, or limited access to selected passport services online.
In a public notice signed by the NIS Public Relations Officer, ACI A. S. Akinlabi, officials explained that the routine maintenance is necessary to help sustain a reliable, secure, and efficient digital passport system capable of handling growing demand. They emphasised that technical teams will work around the clock to restore full services within the stated timeframe.
The agency also advised applicants who may need help during the maintenance period to contact its support team via email or through its official social media channels. The NIS has recently activated temporary complaint-response channels to ensure continued engagement with passport applicants amid challenges in its regular support infrastructure.
Officials urged members of the public to be patient and understanding while the system is being upgraded, noting that the brief downtime is part of efforts to enhance service delivery and prevent more serious system issues in the future.
