Kano police arrest suspect village head abduction

The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the abduction of the Village Head of Garun Babba, Alhaji Abdulmumini Mudi Zakari, an incident that happened on August 9, 2023, in Bebeji Local Government Area.

The suspect, 27-year-old Usman Lawan Baba, also known by the alias “Yellow,” was arrested on October 2, 2025 in Dakatsalle, Zango Ranka, which is part of Bebeji.

During the attack, the Village Head was abducted, robbed of ₦2.75 million, a Tecno Kevo 4 phone, and a wristwatch. He was later rescued by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad during an attempt by the abductors to escape.

While being interrogated, Baba confessed to his participation in the crime. He admitted he received ₦6,000 as his share of the stolen amount. He also named a number of accomplices. Some of these were already killed or arrested in other police operations. Others remain under investigation.

Kano State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the efforts of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and thanked members of the public for their cooperation. The Command said that the suspect will be arraigned in court after investigations are completed.
