Katsina Hisbah destroys 120 cartons of alcohol
The Katsina State Hisbah Board destroyed more than 120 cartons of alcoholic drinks in a public exercise held in Funtua Local Government Area. The operation was part of a wider enforcement drive by the religious policing agency to clamp down on the consumption, distribution, and trafficking of intoxicants that are forbidden under Islamic law.
The raid was led by D.C. Bashir Lawal Balarabe of the Hisbah Board in Dandume LGA, supported by officials from the Funtua zone. The destruction was supervised by the Hisbah’s State Commander‑General, Sheikh Malam Aminu Usman (Abu‑Ammar), PhD, who emphasized that the action was necessary to check rising “moral decadence” in the state.
Several Islamic scholars were present at the ceremony, where they issued strong warnings about the dangers of alcohol. They reaffirmed that intoxicants remain forbidden in Islam, framing them as a threat to social stability and morality.
Sheikh Abu‑Ammar also praised the governor, Dikko Radda, for his support in rebuilding and strengthening the Hisbah Board. He said the governor’s backing has been “commendable and timely,” particularly in helping the Board fulfill its mandate.
This is not the first time the Katsina Hisbah has carried out such an exercise. Earlier reports show that the agency destroyed alcohol and illicit drugs worth ₦60 million in Funtua. In a separate event, they also confiscated 142 cartons of alcohol bound for Daura LGA.
