Kenyan woman fake robbery British boyfriend arrest
A Kenyan woman and her alleged accomplice have been arrested in connection with a staged robbery targeting a British man in Mombasa’s Nyali suburb, according to a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The suspect, identified as Samira Mumbi Kiarie (also known simply as Samira), reportedly lured the foreign national via online courtship, then invited him to what she promised would be a “dream date” in her apartment. Shortly after his arrival, two men burst into the apartment: one posed as Samira’s enraged husband while the other flashed a fake police ID. The fake husband accused the visitor of wrecking his marriage, and the fake officer threatened arrest.
Under duress and fearing for his safety, the British man was coerced into transferring KSh 800,000 (Kenyan shillings) to phone numbers provided by the gang. The suspects then escorted him out and vanished into the night.
Investigators say Samira and one accomplice, Paul Webster Mangeni (alias Paulo), are part of a larger syndicate that targets foreigners through online dating sites, luring them into rented apartments and robbing them under false pretenses. The third suspected accomplice remains at large as authorities deepen the investigation.
