Lagos police arrest cultists and armed robbers in Alaba-Rago

The Lagos State Police recently arrested several suspects believed to be involved in both armed robbery and cultism. The arrests highlight ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Police Command to crack down on violent crime and maintain public safety.

According to the Police, operatives acting on credible intelligence apprehended two alleged cultists aged 34 and 35 in the Alaba-Rago area of Ojo. They recovered a semi-automatic pistol during the operation. Investigators say the suspects are connected to a cult group and are helping authorities with leads to identify and arrest further members and recover other weapons.

This case follows a broader pattern: in the past five months alone, police reports indicate that 131 suspected armed robbers and 142 cultists were arrested across Lagos. Many of these arrests involved foiling planned crimes, recovering arms, and protecting citizens in vulnerable traffic and residential areas. These statistics suggest that law enforcement in Lagos is intensifying its operations against criminal gangs.

Community members have welcomed the police action, saying it provides some relief in neighborhoods plagued by cult clashes and robberies. However, many are urging that following the arrests, swift prosecution and justice are delivered to deter others. Victims of crime also insist that police presence and patrols be sustained to build trust among residents.
