Okoye explained that adapting to life at Watford was not easy, especially with the expectations placed on him after his move to the club. According to him, the experience taught him important lessons about patience, resilience, and the realities of top-level football.
The goalkeeper added that the challenges he faced in England helped shape his character and prepared him for future stages of his career. He said he learned how to stay mentally strong during difficult moments and how to handle criticism and pressure from fans and the media. Okoye described the period as painful but necessary for his growth as a professional footballer.
Since leaving Watford, Okoye has rebuilt his confidence through regular playing time and improved performances at club level. He remains an important part of Nigeria’s national team setup and says he is now more focused and motivated than ever to succeed both for his club and the Super Eagles.
